How it works
Tadalafil blocks PDE5, strengthening nitric-oxide signalling and smooth-muscle relaxation. Sexual stimulation is still needed for an erection response.
Important safety checks
Nitrates, riociguat, alpha blockers, recent cardiovascular events, severe low blood pressure, kidney or liver disease and interacting medicines require review. New erectile dysfunction may also warrant assessment for diabetes or vascular disease.
When to seek urgent care
Seek urgent help for chest pain, fainting, sudden loss of vision or hearing, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or a painful erection that does not subside. Tell emergency clinicians when tadalafil was last used before nitrate treatment is considered.
