Key points

  • A marked blood-pressure drop and fainting can occur after starting, restarting or increasing treatment.
  • Erectile-dysfunction medicines and other blood-pressure or alpha-blocking medicines can add to hypotension.
  • Fainting, inability to urinate or a painful erection that does not subside needs urgent care.

Listings are for comparison only. Suitability and supply depend on clinician and pharmacy checks, stock, destination rules and prescription requirements.

How it works

Terazosin blocks alpha-1 receptors in blood vessels and prostate or bladder-neck smooth muscle, reducing vascular resistance and resistance to urine flow.

Important safety checks

Low blood pressure, fainting history, heart disease and other vasodilating medicines require review. Stand up carefully until individual effects are known. Eye surgeons should know about current or previous alpha-blocker use before cataract surgery.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent help for fainting with injury, chest pain, stroke signs, inability to urinate with severe lower-abdominal pain, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or a painful erection that does not subside.
