What is fluconazole used for?
Fluconazole is an antifungal used for some yeast and fungal infections, including thrush (candidiasis) and cryptococcal meningitis. It does not treat every fungal infection, and resistance can be a problem.
How does fluconazole work?
Fluconazole blocks a fungal enzyme called 14-alpha-demethylase. This stops the fungus making ergosterol, a key part of its cell membrane, so the fungus cannot grow properly.
