Important form differences
Mist inhalers and dry-powder capsule devices use different techniques. Capsules supplied for an inhaler must not be swallowed. Device instruction and demonstration are part of safe treatment.
Important safety checks
Technique, adherence, glaucoma risk, urinary symptoms, kidney function and other anticholinergic medicines require review. Avoid getting the medicine in the eyes. Dry mouth can increase dental risk over time.
When to seek urgent care
Use the respiratory action plan and seek emergency help for severe or rapidly worsening breathlessness, blue-grey lips or skin or poor response to the reliever. Seek urgent care for a painful red eye with halos or inability to urinate with severe lower-abdominal pain.
