How it works
Telmisartan blocks angiotensin II receptors, reducing blood-vessel constriction and aldosterone effects.
Important safety checks
Pregnancy, kidney or renal-artery disease, dehydration, low blood pressure and high potassium require review. Potassium supplements, salt substitutes, anti-inflammatory painkillers and other renin-angiotensin medicines can interact. Blood pressure, kidney function and potassium may need monitoring.
When to seek urgent care
Seek urgent help for facial, tongue or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, fainting, severe weakness with an irregular heartbeat, very low urine output, chest pain or stroke signs.
