Lopinavir is a protease inhibitor used for HIV infection as part of combination treatment. It is taken together with ritonavir, not on its own.
How does lopinavir work?
Lopinavir stops the HIV-1 protease enzyme from cutting viral precursor proteins, which the virus needs to make mature, infectious particles. Ritonavir boosts it by slowing its breakdown so higher levels stay in the blood.

What are the side effects of lopinavir?
