What is itraconazole used for?
Itraconazole is an antifungal used for some fungal infections. These include aspergillosis, thrush (candidiasis), dermatomycosis, histoplasmosis, pityriasis versicolor and tinea.
How does itraconazole work?
Itraconazole blocks fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzymes. This stops the fungus making ergosterol, which it needs for its cell membrane, so its growth is inhibited.
