Key points

  • Domperidone treats symptoms rather than the underlying cause of persistent nausea or vomiting.
  • Heart disease, abnormal electrolytes and medicines that prolong the QT interval or raise domperidone levels can increase arrhythmia risk.
  • Fainting, chest pain or a fast or irregular heartbeat requires urgent medical care.

Listings are for comparison and general information, not a recommendation; suitability and supply depend on clinician and pharmacy checks, the cause of symptoms and prescription requirements.

What domperidone is used for

Domperidone may be used for selected nausea and vomiting or motility-related symptoms. Ongoing vomiting, weight loss, swallowing difficulty or gastrointestinal bleeding needs diagnosis rather than repeated symptom suppression.

Important safety checks

Heart-rhythm history, age, liver function and potassium or magnesium disturbances can affect suitability. Several antibiotics, antifungals, heart medicines and other products can increase cardiac risk. The lowest suitable exposure and shortest necessary treatment are clinical decisions; do not extend treatment without review.

When to seek urgent care

Seek emergency help for fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness or a rapid or irregular heartbeat. Vomiting blood, black stools, severe abdominal pain, marked dehydration, confusion or inability to keep fluids down also requires urgent assessment.
