What is clomifene used for?
Clomifene is used to stimulate ovulation in some women, mainly for infertility caused by not ovulating (anovulation). It does not help with blocked fallopian tubes or every cause of infertility.
How does clomifene work?
Clomifene binds to oestrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which blocks negative feedback and signals the pituitary gland to release more follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinising hormone. This can trigger follicle development and ovulation.
