Neomercazole
5 · 10mg
Carbimazole 5mg and 10mg tablets, used in the management of hyperthyroidism. It blocks thyroid peroxidase, so T3 and T4 are not made.
Hyperthyroidism means the body is exposed to excess thyroid hormone. It can cause weight loss, heat intolerance, tremor and a fast or irregular heartbeat, but blood tests are needed because several conditions can produce similar symptoms.

An antithyroid listing cannot identify the cause or safe treatment; thyroid results, heart rhythm, pregnancy, liver health and eye disease all matter.
TSH and thyroid-hormone tests confirm biochemical thyrotoxicosis. Antibody tests and imaging may distinguish Graves’ disease, autonomous nodules and thyroiditis. Eye prominence, pain or double vision can indicate thyroid eye disease.
Carbimazole is converted to thiamazole and reduces thyroid-hormone synthesis. Radioiodine or surgery may be preferred in other circumstances. Monitoring and pregnancy planning are essential; see thyroid health for class context.
Seek urgent help for high fever with agitation or confusion, severe vomiting, fainting, chest pain, marked breathlessness or a very fast irregular heartbeat. During antithyroid treatment, fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, jaundice or dark urine requires immediate medical advice.
