Vildagliptin
Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor used alone or alongside other medicines to improve glucose control in selected type 2 diabetes mellitus. It does not treat type 1 diabetes or ketoacidosis.
Key points
- Liver function requires assessment because treatment can cause liver injury.
- Severe persistent abdominal pain can indicate pancreatitis.
- Low blood sugar is more likely when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea.
Listings are for comparison only; suitability and supply depend on diabetes assessment, prescription, laboratory monitoring and pharmacy checks.
Important safety checks
Review liver or kidney disease, pancreatitis, heart failure, pregnancy and all glucose-lowering medicines. Follow liver and glucose monitoring plans.
When to seek urgent care
Seek urgent help for severe persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, yellow skin or eyes, severe low blood sugar, facial swelling or breathing difficulty.
