Key points

  • One tablet gives oestrogen-, progestogen- and androgen-like effects, so a separate progestogen is not added.
  • It raises the risk of stroke, especially after 60, and of breast and endometrial cancer.
  • Unexpected vaginal bleeding, chest pain or stroke symptoms need prompt medical attention.

Select a listed product and pack to order online. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether it suits you and what monitoring it needs.

Important safety checks

It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with breast cancer, oestrogen-dependent tumours, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, untreated endometrial hyperplasia, a history of blood clots, stroke, heart attack or angina, or active liver disease. Anticoagulants such as warfarin, some epilepsy medicines and St John’s wort can interact with it.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent help for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, a painful swollen leg, one-sided weakness, slurred speech or a sudden severe headache.
