Ivermectin is an antiparasitic used for some worm and mite infections, including a roundworm infection (strongyloidiasis), river blindness (onchocerciasis) and scabies.
How does ivermectin work?
Ivermectin binds to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in the nerves and muscles of the parasite. This lets chloride ions into the cells, which paralyses and kills the parasite.
