Key points

  • Albendazole does not treat every parasite; tests, exposure history and infection site can change treatment.
  • Longer or systemic treatment may require liver tests and blood counts.
  • Severe headache, seizures, vision change, jaundice or unusual bleeding needs urgent assessment.

Listings are for comparison and general information, not a deworming recommendation; suitability and supply depend on diagnosis, clinician and pharmacy checks and prescription requirements.

How albendazole works

Albendazole disrupts parasite microtubules and glucose use. In tissue infections, dying parasites can provoke inflammation, so companion treatment or specialist monitoring may be needed.

Important safety checks

Pregnancy, liver disease, blood disorders and possible brain or eye involvement require review. Persistent symptoms after treatment may need repeat testing rather than another unsupervised course.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent help for seizures, severe headache, weakness, vision change, jaundice, fever with sore throat, unusual bruising or a severe allergic reaction.
